New York Has Gone Full Rec In 2021

In a historical vote, late Tuesday night New York legislators have approved recreational cannabis. In addition to legalizing the adult use of cannabis this new bill would expunge the records of people previously convicted of possession. This cannabis bill was passed by the New York State Assembly with a 100-49 vote to push the bill through. All that is needed now is for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to sign the bill once it has made its way to his desk. Here’s what Gov. Cuomo had to say about the passing of this new cannabis bill late Tuesday evening

“Tonight, the New York State Legislature took the first step in a major leap forward for the Empire State by passing legislation to legalize adult-use cannabis,” he said in a statement. “For too long the prohibition of cannabis disproportionately targeted communities of color with harsh prison sentences and after years of hard work, this landmark legislation provides justice for long-marginalized communities, embraces a new industry that will grow the economy, and establishes substantial safety guards for the public.”

The passing of this new cannabis bill makes New York one of the top 3 largest adult-use markets in the U.S. cannabis industry. This victory puts the big apple alongside 16 other states that have gone full rec as well. With this bill now passed it will be legal for people 21 and over to have up to 3 ounces of cannabis in one’s possession. The sale of legal cannabis will have a 13 percent tax implemented. This 13 percent tac will break down into two parts 9 percent will go to the state and the remaining 4 percent will be used to help rebuild communities.

How Will New York Legalizing The Adult Use Of Cannabis Help The City?

With New York now being a full rec state, this new market will have the ability to create as many as 60,000 new jobs. Furthermore, with these new employment opportunities, the state has the chance to reach a yearly revenue of $350 million. Those who are citizens of New York will legally be allowed to cultivate their cannabis at home.

The requirement for home cannabis grows is a limit of three mature plants for adults over 21. In addition to six mature plants per household. After Gov. Cuomo signs his name on the bill New York will be another state to go rec. This new cannabis bill will form an Office of Cannabis Management. Also, a tax would be implemented on the percentage of THC 0.5 cents per milligram for flower. As well as 0.8 cents per milligram for concentrates, and 3 cents per milligram for edibles.
