Will New York Legalize Recreational Cannabis This Year?
With a great deal of hype and anticipation surrounding cannabis legislation, more states are looking to go legal. Back in November 5 new states legalized cannabis in some way or another. One of those states was New Jersey. This set in motion a series of events that led its neighboring state to follow suit and work on legalizing cannabis in New York.
In recent Covid Coronavirus Briefing led by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo as he went over Covid and vaccine information he also briefly discussed legal cannabis in the state of New York. Cuomo talks about how the state of New York is getting closer to legalizing cannabis. During this briefing, he talks about how legalizing recreational cannabis needs to get done in 2021.
He also went onto say New York has tried to pass cannabis legislation for 3 years and feels this year is when it may finally happen. As well he stated that due to the lack of proper cannabis legislation many lives have been ruined by small cannabis crimes. Governor Cuomo also stated that New York is putting a budget together. This budget will help with not only securing the health and vaccine needs with Covid but also to help with cannabis legislation.
Will NY Go Legal In 2021
If New York can legalize recreational cannabis it would only add more value to the growth of the U.S. cannabis industry. The big apple has a big cannabis community that is in need of proper cannabis laws. With much attention on the U.S. cannabis industry, there is great growth potential yet to be seen. With more states going legal it will increase the amount of revenue that is currently being made. The positive behind NY going legal is the Governor and other political figures are standing behind it.
The hope as Gov. Cuomo stated is that we have been in the red zone before and now we need to get over the goal line. Yet like any legal market, there will need to be rules and regulations established beforehand. Once regulations are put into place it will allow for a smooth transition into a legal cannabis market for New York. So as things progress overall for more states and cannabis legislation as a whole only time will tell the progress of NY going legal in 2021. So with many people and keeping watch for the future.
