Recently, Peru began the process of introducing legal cannabis into the country like approving a bill that effectively allow the cultivation as well as the importation of medical cannabis.

According to an international report, there was a makeshift cannabis lab, that was run by several mothers that are in hopes of finding cures to their children who have various illnesses. The lab was raided by police during February, which resulted a in a protest from the public surrounding the fact that they were simply trying to help their kids. Earlier in the month of September, the Congressional Committee on National Defense decided to approve a bill that would legalize medical cannabis. Now the bill just has to go before the full Peruvian Congress.

The legislators in Peru are currently debating the issue and whether or not they’d like it to be in place. The President of Peru, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski was the one who initially brought the bill into light, after hearing of the mother’s simply trying to treat their children.

Congressman Alberto de Balaunde stated to a newspaper locally that the initiative would help patients who are suffering from all sorts of diseases including but not limited to, cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, and more.

De Belaunde also stated that cannabis oil would be part of the legislation, but they need to have a piece of formal text written to make sure whether smoking cannabis will be legal as well.

One of the local groups that advocates for legalization of the plant, Seeking Hope, stated that “we feel that all the mothers of the group are very happy because it is a reward for so much struggle that we have been going through day by day.”

Hopefully, the Peruvian people who are suffering from these various diseases can get the treatment they need without being interrupted by the government.
