As 2016 begins, people are looking forward to a new president taking office. Even more important for cannabis activists, they are looking into which President will legalize marijuana. We have had elections before where a full state was attempting to legalize medicinal cannabis or maybe a modest bunch of states were endeavoring to bring a recreational marijuana bill to the table. In any case, we have yet to have a case where maybe twelve states were looking to legalize recreational cannabis at the same time. In 2016, though, we seem ready to have a record amount of recreational initiatives and alterations on state polls.

Right now, Nevada is the only state set to have a cannabis initiative on its 2016 poll, yet it likely won’t be the only one. Substantial support has come from California, Vermont, Arizona, Michigan, Rhode Island, and even Ohio, where Issue 3 failed miserably to gain the backing of recreational marijuana voters this last November. It’s important, however, to note that Ohio’s shockingly extensive medical and recreational cannabis misfortune have all the earmarks of being more the consequence of how the growing contracts were being played out than citizens’ real position toward the plant.

President Obama has recommended that an ideal approach to standing out enough to be noticed by Congress is to keep on putting the issue before voters and permit them to choose. The more states that legalize recreational and medical cannabis, the more a catalyst there will be for Congress to consider changing the present position of weed at the government level. Keep in mind that its scheduling status is important for pot-based organizations as it could slacken banking measures, permitting them access to essential bank services. A rescheduling would likewise allow pot shops to deduct typical costs of doing business, which is something they can’t do right now.
