Mayor Makes Inaugural Purchase at Country’s First Government-Run Marijuana Shop

“Mayor Caught Buying Marijuana” could be interpreted as a harmful headline in most areas throughout the US. North Bonneville, Washington, however is unphased, where the mayor wants the people to follow his beliefs on marijuana.

The small city, on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon, is the first in the United Sates to launch a government-run recreational cannabis facility, Mayor Don Stevens said to NBC News.

It goes by the name of, The Cannabis Corner, and on Saturday, he was the first individual to make a proper purchase. He purchased four one-gram bags of four different strains. He stated that he used two of the four various strains, Nobama Diesel and Blue Magoo, and found them “quite enjoyable with a calming effect that made my evenings very relaxing.”

The city government selected a five-person board to run the store, Stevens stated. The revenue will be put into a special fund, and the city can apply to the board to access it.

“We’ve already been talking about upgrading the city park for the kids,” Stevens said to NBC associate KGW, tacking on that the park is “pathetic.” The Cannabis Corner will be open seven days a week, store hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
