Within the marijuana culture there is no better feeling than knowing individuals who support the movement are willing to gather and protest for the right to legalize cannabis. In recent news, Portland Oregon has just hosted the 2015 Cannabis March, with a group of people who gathered around a stage that was located on the far corner of Pioneer Courthouse Square. People who came to participate were holding signs that said, “Free the Weed,” “Help End Marijuana Prohibition,” “F*** the DEA,” People also wore marijuana outfits with different pins and green ribbons on their clothing.
The march is a community demonstration in a global day of protest hence the Global Cannabis March. This event has been active for 16 years and looks to spread into 300 different cities. The People who were responsible organizing the march stated that the rally was a cry for “the protection of our civil liberty and the need to end discrimination against cannabis consumers.” Yet those in attendance had more of a specific plan in mind. This past fall recreational cannabis use was legalized; however, people at the rally were inclined to remind folks they’re more issues regarding legalizing marijuana that need to be addressed.
The cannabis march started at eleven in the morning this past Saturday. There was live entertainment and speeches from marijuana supporters and activist all leading up to 4 pm, which is when the official march, began.
