When some think about the fact that fate of cannabis activism being left to state lawmakers, it becomes evident why legalization in the freest country on the planet has not occurred after twenty years. State lawmakers do not know the first thing about marijuana it seems.

Eight Senators from Massachusetts, who came together in 2015 to make the state’s “Special Committee on Marijuana,” do not know anything about cannabis, its uses, or how it is even consumed. According to a report from The Boston Globe, these eight senators went to Colorado this week in order to study the effects of recreational and medical marijuana on society. During this mission, it seems that the senators all made it clear that they know absolutely nothing about the simplest parts of marijuana.

First off, Senator John F. Keenan, who says that legalization should not be legalized because it jeopardizes the safety of the public, does not even know how cannabis is taken in. Keenan was being toured through a dispensary and being shown sundry strains, till he asked the tour guide “If I were to buy this, what would I do with it? Do I crush it? Roll it?”

Moments after, Keenan asked someone working at the dispensary if they sold “the balm.” There are a couple of reasons why he could have asked this, both of which are incredibly ignorant. The first guess is that Keenan was asking about weed topicals. The second theory, which is even worse, may have been the Senator trying to recreate street slang that he heard saying that the marijuana “is the bomb.”

As for the other lawmakers, such as Senator Michael O. Moore, were evidently confused by the concept that recreational pot products may still be used for medical reasons. Senator Jason Lewis confessed that his trip to Colorado was made to “reduce the number of unknowns” to correctly consider the recreational marijuana market in 2016. He added that “while the implementation of legalized marijuana in Colorado has gone reasonably well, there are many, many different issues that come up and need to be addressed.”
