Last month we did a story on Cannabis Advocate & Activist Kevin P. Saunders (Democrat) and his quest to enter the race for Mayor of the city of Marina, California. We were pleased to find out yesterday that future Mayor Saunders qualified for the November ballot on a progressive platform that aims to be more inclusive to the Medical Marijuana community. Make no mistake, Saunders is a pro cannabis advocate, but his platform is also based off of progressive common sense initiatives that with support small business, blue collar labor forces via infrastructure projects, affordable housing and many other reforms that current mayor Bruce Carlos Delgado (Green Party) hasn’t been able to effectively address. If you’re curious to see the financials statements for City of Marina from 2010-2015 as they relate to growth (or lack thereof), money allocated to public works (or lack thereof), accumulated debt year over year click here.

Kevin Saunders had this statement to MarijuanaStocks.com:

“I have lived in Marina, the city that I cherish, for 7 years. We, as a community, seek change after almost 10 years under the current mayor. I feel that I can best bring about that change and unite our diverse community by being elected on November 8th by its citizens as the tip of the sword and act upon their many interests.

First, we need affordable housing and I will enact a sensible rent control policy that is fair and equitable. Second, police relations are at an all-time low and we aim to improve relations between our police for and the people they are tasked to “protect and serve,” as a means to quell issues with an us vs them mentality that hurts relations I am proposing Body cams to protect both officers & citizens. This small measure will save time & money for Marina by cutting down frivolous claims as well as act as checks and balances for our police force.Third, I will rescind the ban on Medical Marijuana dispensaries and help usher in a new industry that is suited for Marina. The taxes from these dispensaries will fund projects and go to our recreation, police and fire departments.

If elected as your new Mayor, I will do my best to make you proud and serve as a voice for our community. Together, we can transform Marina into a vibrant destination for tourists and help keep Marina a safe, affordable and a thriving environment to raise a family.”

Ironically current mayor Bruce Delgado, who has been serving the city of Marina for the past 8 years is a member of the Green Party and is anti Cannabis in any capacity. From our perspective at Marijuana Stocks we see that public officials may in fact be in favor of Medical Marijuana, yet vote against it because they seek re-election & don’t want to rock their “donor” boat. Logic and common sense is not so common these days as any person can see that legal cannabis reduces crime, reduces cost associated with prosecuting minor offenders, increases city & state coffers by taxation, is a job creation machine and drastically hurts the black markets. In our opinion Delgado is the old way of thinking and history will show he was on the wrong side of the movement. That is why we are supporting candidates like Kevin P. Saunders for Mayor of the City of Marina.
