Currently Uncle sam is still in disbelief that that there is sufficient proof behind the healing theories of medical marijuana to allow veterans who suffer from issues due to mental illnesses to have access to marijuana, many who are conducting their investigation on the plant are moving onwards with a federally approved study that could result in marijuana being utilized as a viable solution for post-traumatic stress disorder.
Though it has taken a substantial amount of time to reach this point, Dr. sue Sisley and her team of scientific minds are getting ready to start exploring into the healing powers of the marijuana plant. The conclusion of this research could put members of Congress, who recently voted in favor in not allowing veterans to discuss medical marijuana with their VA physicians, to eat crow.
Previously, after obtaining federal approval to proceed with her research, Dr. Sisley was fired from her job at the University of Arizona, where the research was to be observed. Luckily the state of Colorado helped out with a generous $2 million donation from the state’s recreational market to get this study up and moving.
However Sisley and her team have since been forced to work with the government’s inability to cultivate the level of marijuana needed for the research.
Dr. Sisley said that her highly publicized study on PTSD and marijuana is planned to get underway. The month and a half study will include 76 veterans who will be provided four various strains of pot inbreeder to evaluate how different THC to CBD ratios affect the symptoms of this common anxiety disorder.
“We chose to study veterans because of the prevalence of debilitating PTSD among this population,” Dr. Marcel Bonn-Miller, a member of Sisley research group “That said, we believe the findings from this work will generalize to individuals with PTSD more broadly.”
Sisley has stated that it very crucial to breaking down the governmental walls to cannabis research, more so with the NIDA monopoly and the Public Health Service review process.
“Our research is intended to address some of the unanswered questions surrounding medical marijuana, particularly the proper dosage and cannabinoid ratio for PTSD patients,” Sisley documented. “To put patients, front and center, rather than politics, there is a desperate need to expand cannabis research. Without this research, we are leaving medical marijuana open for political opportunists, rather than allowing doctors to explore new options that serve the best interests of our patients.”
