Utilizing cannabis as a medication in the state of Pennsylvania is one step further to becoming a reality. Keystone State senators Tuesday afternoon approved a bill that would legalize cannabis for medical applications, setting up a vote in the state House. The bill passed with a winning vote of 40-7.
If the bill successfully passes the House, patients suffering from at least one of 15 medical issues would be allowed under the law to use cannabis to treat medical conditions such as epilepsy, post stress traumatic disorder, HIV/AIDS and cancer.
However smoking pot would be left illegal, individuals would be able to use the cannabis in various other uses, such as pills, gel, ointments, and oil. Edible cannabis products would also remain against the law, yet there would not be a measure in place to prevent patients from combining the medication into food before prior to eating.
Gov. Tom Wolf promised to sign the bill into law if it passes successfully through the House, and the House majority leader has all but assured that he will give his best efforts to make that a reality,
“We’ve got too many kids and too many citizens in general that can potentially benefit from the use of medical marijuana,” Dave Reed stated “We just need to make sure it’s regulated in the most appropriate fashion possible and that we’re not creating a lot of unintended consequences.”
