Cannibidiol or CBD has been one of the most important chemicals in the fight for making marijuana available for medicinal use. CBD holds a large amount of potential in the medical world as it does not have any psychoactive capabilities, but does deliver a high amount of medical relief. The presence of the substance across food health stores and search engine results for a wide variety of conditions continues to grow at a high amount.

One of the things that many people have misconceptions about regarding CBD is the fact that it is non-psychoactive. This means that it does not alter the consciousness of the user in the way that THC does. CBD has a very nice quality to it, being that it is anti-anxiety, anti-psychotic, anti-craving and more, but how can all of this happen without it being psychoactive? The main reason is that CBD can somewhat be considered to be psychoactive in the extent that it does solve many of these issues, but it its non-impairing and non-intoxicating which is the main reason that anyone would be worried about it. CBD is also not the only medicinal part of the plant as there are many other chemicals in weed that have medicinal effect such as THC. CBD does not however produce any rewarding or pleasurable effect in the same way that THC does. It is also not associated whatsoever with euphoria or the typical effects that smoking a high THC strain would have.

One of the many positives about CBD is that it is not sedating. CBD has been considered by many to actually be alerting, and has shown to counteract some of the sedative effects that THC has, and reduce the hangover that some may get when smoking a large quantity of weed. A study that gave patients a 600mg, or high dose of CBD found that even high levels of CBD are not sedating in healthy subjects.

CBD can also be extremely effective in quite low doses. This is one of the positives of using CBD in the long term. Many individuals who use CBD for medical purposes find that they can get away with only smoking a small amount. Although using small amounts may be helpful for some, others need higher doses of the substance to get the medicinal effects that they want. One patient may find that they get anxiety relief with around 5 mg of the substance while others need as much as 200 mg of CBD to get the same results. This means that the active amount patients need can vary a wide amount leading to different diagnoses for all.

CBD is the same across the different types of marijuana plants which means that producing CBD alone does not require any sort of license. CBD can be produced from hemp, which is totally legal and can produce the same effects. Although CBD on its own is a great medicine, it is especially good when combined with THC and the other components of the weed plant. The benefits of using the entirety of the cannabis plant include better results for inflammation reduction and more. Although the distinction between medical cannabis and hemp varieties is blurred, it is still likely that hemp produces less CBD than its medicinal or recreational cousin. The future of weed is incredibly optimistic and continues to pave the way for more research in the area. The hopes are high that the coming years will see the legality of cannabis find its way to the national level. Only time will tell how easily patients can begin to get the medicine they need whether it be CBD or THC or both.
