Still illegal at the federal standpoint, this market segment is dependent on sale outlets that developed out of the necessity to have some level of state government substance control. A report on ClinicalTrials.gov displays that there are a fair amount of open clinical studies that are currently being conducted to test the existence of health benefits in correlation to many medical symptoms associated with the use of marijuana.
There will need to be more substantial scientific investigations to show proper evidence to doctors that there are both conditions specific and complementary health advantages to be obtained through the use of marijuana in order to encourage them to prescribe marijuana to patient if allowed.
Though the medical marijuana industry wants to market complementary health advantages of marijuana to possible medical users through different outlets of media, then they, in theory, must get a government approved qualified health claim through the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
Recreational use, on the other hand, is much simpler to market directly to possible users in places where it is legal to use marijuana for recreational reasons. There isn’t a dependence on using health reasons to push doctors to allow the access to potential marijuana users because marijuana distributors are allowed to sell their crop directly to those who bit “need” and “want” it.
