When driving under the influence we can automatically assume it is never good idea, because of the potential risk of a severe or fatal accident. From the time Colorado legalized pot back in 2012 individuals in defense of prohibition made a point to address the concern of the roads being occupied by “Drugged drivers”. Originally when medical cannabis was legalized back in 2001, there was an increase in drivers that have used marijuana. Other states have identified that drivers who have tested positive for cannabis have witnessed a rise in fatal car crashes.
However, since 2012,Colorado has seen a historic low in fatal car accidents displaying a low from a 14-year average. Though the amount of miles Americans drive every year has leveled off throughout the nation since the mid 2000’s, the number of the total distance traveled is still increasing in Colorado. If we were to track it by rate, then Colorado would reach lows not seen in over 10 years.

  1. So we are to infer, from this brilliant piece of journalism, that smoking pot in Colorado leads to fewer fatal accidents. That new technology in vehicle safety has no impact. That although traveling by car has leveled in 56 other states, Colorado vehicle travel is up. (Barry’s number, not mine)
And, that somehow, pot smoking in Colorado is safer than anywhere else in America.
