Big plans are being set in motion for New York State in regards to medical marijuana. The Big Apple has initiated the process of accepting applications for its medical marijuana license this week. Individuals who are applying are allowed to submit questions through May 5th however the Department of Health Services will be inclined to answer all those questions by the 14th of May. The final day to file your paper work is May 29th. There is a nonrefundable application fee of $10,000 as well as a registration fee for $200,000.
With only 5 applicants that will be granted a license to grow and distribute certified medical grade cannabis with limits up to four dispensaries, applicants need to be prepared for what’s to come.
The dispensaries must be within a neighboring or nearby county across the state of New York.
When looking at the statute, these approved applicants need to be ready for when the program is suggested to take action January 5, 2016.
However even when an applicant becomes approved for a license they will need to lockdown a location and obtain local support before building the facility.
Patients looking to obtain medical marijuana will need a certified recommendation from a registered doctor though the Department of Justice has not started that process yet.
The mind set of the first 5 approved applicants are that they believe that New York’s marijuana program will grow as it develops over time adding on more illnesses and diseases to the list with the hopes of establishing more dispensaries.
“The program will inevitably expand. The people will push for expansion,” stated Bierman. “New York will have recreational pot. It’s inevitable.”
With more states that are frequently joining the fight to legalize marijuana the cannabis culture can breathe a bit easier with another state joining the movement.
