Oregon is one stage closer to completely actualizing its recreational cannabis industry by January 2017. The Oregon Liquor Control Commission affirmed its first recreational pot licenses Friday, favoring eight producers under the new administrative framework. The office was tasked with administering Oregon’s recreational cannabis industry.

“These licensees reflect the pioneering spirit Oregon is known for,” Rob Patridge, OLCC Chair, said in a statement Friday. “They come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences and possess the entrepreneurial spirit of this industry.”

The eight licenses were issued to producers in Lane, Tillamook, Washington, Clackamas, Jackson and Josephine districts and incorporate a blend of substantial and medium-scale indoor, blended and open air development cultivators, the office said. The authorized cultivators can start working on the OLCC’s power once they pay their yearly permitting expense.

The office arrangements to meet each week through early June to endorse extra licenses. Prior this year OLCC representative Mark Pettinger told OPB that it was the organization’s objective to endorse cultivators first with a specific end goal to set up a store network before favoring dispensaries. He said the organization hopes to start issuing licenses to dispensaries in October.

As of Friday, the organization has gotten more than 900 recreational cannabis permit applications. It says it hopes to issue more than 850 before the current year is over when it expects full control of the direction of Oregon’s recreational weed industry. At the moment, dispensaries authorized under the Oregon Heath Authority’s therapeutic cannabis project can direct recreational deals to persons 21 or older. That procurement terminates toward the end of the year.

“We didn’t do anything to specially select these folks. It was the fact that they got the I’s dotted and T’s crossed on their applications,” Mark Pettinger, with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, said.
