The big question for the ballots in November is which states are going to vote on legalizing marijuana. There are many data sources that predict at least a dozen more states deciding whether or not to legalize in November. In addition to that, the general opinion on marijuana has become much less extreme, and the drug is becoming much more accepted than it once was, so it won’t be surprising to see some states legalize. More recently, Arizona and Colorado announced that they would officially be voting on marijuana in November; now, there is one more state to add.

That state is Maine. Whether or not they are going to legalize marijuana is going to be decided after November. Last week, Secretary of State Matt Dunlap revealed that the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol was able to make the ballot under the title “Question 1.” Here is what the specific measure will read: “Do you want to allow the possession and use of marijuana under state law by persons who are at least 21 years of age, and allow the cultivation, manufacture, distribution, testing, and sale of marijuana and marijuana products subject to state regulation, taxation, and local ordinance?” If voters decided yes, the state would be able to start a cannabis market for adults aged 21 or older.

“Several states have repealed marijuana prohibition over the past few years, and they are experiencing very positive results,” David Boyer, CRMLA campaign manager, said. “Hundreds of millions of dollars in marijuana sales that used to take place in the underground market are now being conducted in tightly regulated businesses that are generating significant tax revenue and creating good jobs. We are confident that Question 1 will be just as successful, and we are looking forward to talking with voters about its many benefits.”
