Maine’s secretary of state reported a week ago that cannabis reform advocates neglected to gather enough legitimate signatures to qualify their authorization activity for November’s ballot. In any case, those promoters documented a claim on Thursday affirming that state authorities despicably excluded a huge number of signatures that, on the off chance that they had been tallied, would have set the measure for voters.

As Marijuana.com was first to report a week ago, the secretary of state’s office seems to have denied more than 17,000 marks on the grounds that the marks of a single notary on the petitions did not coordinate the one on the document. As indicated by U.S. News & World Report, authorities did not endeavor to contact the legal official being referred to before issuing the decision.

The claim, recorded in Kennebec County Superior Court, asserts that officials unlawfully denied residents their protected right to vote to end prohibition. The filing comes on behalf of a gathering of Maine voters who put in the request to put the measure on the ballot, including two state officials. David Boyer of the Campaign to Control Cannabis Like Alcohol announced the move at a news meeting.

“We are confident that this appeal will result in the initiative appearing on the November ballot,” Boyer stated in a press release. “Each of the petitions in question was properly signed by both the circulators and the notaries. There is simply no reason for the Secretary of State to reject more than 17,000 signatures from registered voters in the state. The Secretary of State’s Office did not follow procedures commonly used to ensure, in their words, the ‘integrity’ of the process. The law dictates that these 17,000-plus signatures be counted.”

Proponents needed 61,123 signatures from registered voters to be approved, but after going over the nearly 100,000 signatures advocates submitted, the secretary of state’s office decided that no more than 51,543 were legitimate.
