Melissa Spiegel Iowa DOT spokeswoman stated the cost was fair based on quoted the department has obtained for similar jobs on other cards. The agency, which was put into action by state law to make different tamperproof cards for caregivers and patients, currently pays $10 for each identification card, which doesn’t cost anything to the user.
Spiegel added that the information that is put on a card application is shared with law enforcement.
Iowa started accepting forms for cards back in late January. As of this past Wednesday, Iowa has issued over 50 cards in reference to the state Department of Public Health. “The Legislature required us to produce and issue registration cards,” Spiegel said. “We’re really kind of on the back end of this.”
