Lawmakers in Georgia have chosen a very sly way to give patients the experience of consuming medical cannabis without actually doing so. This plan will allow for those suffering conditions that make life unbearable without medicine. The state legislature wrote in a recent measure with the goal of allow more residents to have cannabis. However, it was taken apart by Congress in order to pass. For instance, cultivation was one aspect of the medicine that was taken out by the others.

Albeit there was some guarantee at the start that Representative Allen Peake’s newest measure (House Bill 722) had a good chance of introducing a controlled therapeutic cannabis industry to Georgia, anger from Georgian law enforcement as well as Governor Nathan Deal led legislators to come up with the legislation. Later in February, the House Judiciary Committee stated that it was excluding a part of the measure that would have allowed cannabis to be cultivated and distributed by the state to those suffering from severe conditions.

In spite of the fact that members of the committee told Peake that the amendment was vital in order for the measure to make it out of the state legislature with a chance of winning, the lawmaker said that this removal of the farming portion meant obstruction of the primary goal – not allowing people from getting into trouble with the federal government – even if it passed.

“That was the heart of the bill,” Peake stated. “I feel like the cast of The Walking Dead. I must look like I’ve been disemboweled here.” Even approaching things slowly, the newest update of the measure could barely be considered a medical cannabis upgrade. The bill’s only power—if it passes—is to grow Georgia’s patient registry program and allow those suffering from a handful of conditions, including autism and cancer, to receive access.
