Which State may be the First to Ban Medical Marijuana?

Every country seems to have loosened up on the strict marijuana views… Except for Montana. As of right now, 27 states have eased up on marijuana restrictions, and four of those even legalized recreational use. Despite this, Montana may be the first state to revoke medical marijuana. Medicinal Marijuana was legalized in Montana in 2004; as a result, the pot business spiked. Five years later, in 2009, the federal government urged prosecutors to focus upon other areas of criminality rather than the pot one.

Because there was a reduced threat towards the marijuana industry, many doctors and providers flooded into the state. The amount of patients that Montana was receiving boomed. Traveling clinics distributed marijuana licenses to many patients and providers set up shops on almost every corner. However, on many corners there are churches, therefore, some churches opposed the opening businesses. An entire protesting movement spawned as medical marijuana was associated with other crimes.

Two years later, in 2011, the DEA busted various marijuana providers after an investigation for over a year and a half. Attorneys decided to take them to court under federal marijuana law. Montana passed a law making it illegal for providers to generate profit and put a cap on the amount of patients that they could have. Over 5,000 providers shrunk to almost 400. After a lawsuit pleading to remove the law. Years later, the topic came up and will be the topic of discussion in October. The main debate is over whether or not the state legislature has the right to pass the restriction laws they have in mind; the decision may be the end of the medical marijuana industry in Montana.
