Currently in the state of Tennessee cannabis oil is readily available for limited medical reasons. So the Mathes family located on the east side of Tennessee are ready. The Mathes family already had a recommendation along with the oil from a licensed physician before Monday. Their daughter, Josie still suffers from seizures that have affected her short life.

They’re just waiting for Gov. Bill Haslam to give his final consent to arguably Tennessee’s first extensive step towards legalizing a cannabis product for medical purposes. When Monday eventually came and as anticipated, Haslam signed a law that legalized the controversial medical standpoint.

“We’re very, very happy that we can get started and see some improvements and get the nasty medicines behind us,” Josie’s mother, Stacie Mathes, stated on a Monday afternoon.

The Mathes family began giving Josie the marijuana oil as soon as they got confirmation the bill was signed. This law will take time to be effective, but the new law provides a ray of light at the end of the tunnel.

“As parents, you want some miracles. And you know in some cases it will stop seizures pretty quick,” Stacie Mathes stated.”We’re hopeful that we can get them under control. … We’re happy with that.”

The new law provides people who suffer from seizures or epilepsy and acquire a recommendation from a licensed physician to use marijuana oil. The law will be set to take action immediately.

“I’m going to trust people like John Dreyzehner, our commissioner (of the Tennessee Department of Health), in terms of the fears that he has around medical marijuana and some of the issues there versus cannabis oil, which he feels like can help some people in very specific situations,” Haslam said to reporters in Franklin after confirming he signed the bill Monday morning.
