Since the recreational marijuana industries have begun, there have been many reforms. The next state to do this is Oregon; in Oregon, it is legal to cultivate and buy cannabis, however, state clean air laws and local rules that have impacted public festivals that give away cannabis or are characterized by the drug. Luckily, the Oregon Cannabis Association has found a way to set up a summer fair where adults at least 21 or older, are able to take home free samples of marijuana. The Summer Fair, which will have various cannabis cultivators, is going to take place on July 24th at the North Warehouse in Portland. Amy Margolis, a Portland attorney with the cannabis association, stated that the fair is set up to show others Oregon’s cannabis industry and give smokers a chance to learn more about the strands distributed in pot shops.

“It’s a way to meet new people who are interested in this market,” Margolis said.

The association spoke out on the city’s rules by not charging admission, she added. Portland officials have made it very evident that they wish to go against any events that are open to marijuana that is giving out samples of marijuana where people pay to enter. The city views paid admission to a fair where cannabis is handed out as similar to selling marijuana; something only licensed pot shops are allow to do under the law. Public marijuana consumption is also not allowed so people who collect free samples at the Summer Fair will not be allowed to smoke or vape on site. Victor Salinas, the city’s marijuana policy coordinator, stated on Thursday that the city had told organizers to check photo identification of attendees, as well as make sure there is “enough security to monitor the perimeter to make sure no one is entering other than by the established entrance and exit.”
