Hawaii has chosen eight corporations on Friday to open medical cannabis dispensaries, however, not one ran by Woody Harrelson. The famous actor was one of almost sixty residents from Hawaii who applied in January to start up the state’s first medical cannabis dispensaries. Dispensaries may open as soon as the middle of July. A spokesperson for Harrelson, Ina Treciokas, stated that there was nothing to say about the choices made.
A group of four looked at almost sixty applications to open cannabis businesses based on criteria including companies’ evidence of financial stability, ability to abide by security needs and being able to provide what a patient needs. The group would not speak on Friday about why it chose and did not choose certain businesses, however, the health department stated that it believes that there will be a score on each applicant released within the next couple of weeks.
Aloha Green Holdings Inc., Manoa Botanicals and TCG Retro Market 1 were chosen to start up businesses on Oahu. Hawaiian Ethos and Lau Ola were selected for the Big Island as Maui Wellness Group, and Pono Life Sciences Maui were chosen on Maui. Another business, Green Aloha, was chosen to open dispensaries on Kauai.
“It’s a feeling of huge responsibility and potential for doing good, so it’s lots of emotions,” Richard Ha from Lau Ola, one of the businesses chosen for the Big Island., stated “We’re really happy to participate in this, but we got to do this right, and we fully intend to do that.”
“We look forward to applying for a medical marijuana dispensary license in the future should the Department of Health decide that the granting of additional licenses to operate a medical marijuana dispensary is in the best interest of the people of the state of Hawaii,” Blue Planet Healing, who was not chosen, announced.
