The odds are that you’ve heard of the “War on Drugs” is likely to be pretty slim. It’s a term first adopted in 1972 by Richard Nixon after he had announced programs by the government to fight perpetrators who were selling & trafficking various drugs to US consumers. The Irony isn’t lost on us at MarijuanaStocks.com since it’s widely known that it was in fact government organizations like the CIA that was using drugs to fund private conflicts and even parts of the Vietnam War. Marijuana, one of the Scapegoats of this farce was one of those drugs. The first marijuana attack happened in 1937 when the Marijuana Tax Act became law when Harry Anslinger, the commissioner of the bureau of narcotics, held meetings about the hemp plant that needed to be banned because of its “effect on the degenerate races.” More specifically, he was referring to immigrants (Mexicans specifically) who were in search of a jobs. Anslinger himself was a puppet for William Randolph Hearst the media mogul that saw industrial hemp as a direct threat to his timber interests, but also framed the vilification of Mexicans because he lost 800,000 acres of land to Panch Villa (a Mexican) during the Mexican Revolution. Hearst, not happy put his media empire to work beginning his yellow journalism campaign and what would be called “reefer madness.”
Even then, though, the official war on drugs has been just as bad, if not worse. At one point or another, you have probably heard that cannabis is dangerous. You’ve probably heard things like that it leads to hallucinations, ruins vision and judgment, and can even lead to paranoia. Marijuana has yet to be properly studied and to date, I have never hallucinated and also contend that an extra slice of chocolate cake could lead to bad judgment. Let’s take a look at how many deaths have been caused by marijuana: zero. There are no credible reports that state that someone has died because of marijuana. Yet there are 430,000 deaths per year because of tobacco, which makes it the leading cause of death in the United States. There are 116,113 deaths from alcohol and 200,000 from prescription pills. These are both legal. The war on drugs has been incredibly flawed up to now. The fact that the drug is relatively innocuous against legal substances is ridiculous in our estimation and the American populous is taking note as favorability is above 60% for medical marijuana legalization.
Cigarettes have been proven to be more addictive, cause cancer, damage the respiratory system, raise blood pressure, decrease oxygen to the brain and body. If that wasn’t bad, enough cigarette smoking is a huge risk factor to the cause of emphysema, chronic bronchitis, stroke, high blood pressure and osteoporosis. Therefore, it is ridiculous that lives are being ruined for smoking or possessing marijuana. The war on drugs has ruined the lives of millions; incarcerating small time offenders, ignoring prescription drug pill mills and being a complete money suck on the American Tax payer. Hopefully the DEA reschedules marijuana properly or removes it entirely from the list of dangerous drugs…
