Last February Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida a likely Republican presidential candidate, was asked a question in regard to legalizing cannabis and if he has ever tried marijuana before.
His reply was, you know why I never answer that question? If I say I haven’t tried weed you won’t believe me. But if I say I have tried pot once before, then kids will find influence and say,“Well, I can smoke marijuana, ‘cause look how he made it. He did all right, so I guess I can do it, too.” However, the overall situation is that it is a substance that alters your mind. Now, When I was a teenager I made poor decisions as is. I did not need the aid of cannabis or alcohol to further that. Rubio found that the question at the time was irrelevant. The initial issue I recognized with Rubio’s answer is that it is circular. The concern that is presented to him is whether cannabis should be legal. Rubio’s rebuttal is that you should not use marijuana just because it’s illegal.
Rubio invokes a circular argument to justify himself not answering the question with an efficient answer. The question has an obvious point and policy basis. The younger generation wants know whether Rubio thinks it should be against the law for them to do what he did. His reply is that he will not answer that question because saying you tried marijuana sets a negative influence for kids

  1. If politicians, especially a presidential candidate like Sen. Marco Rubio can not be honest about his past even if your answer may not be suitable for the image you are trying to uphold, we as Americans will have a difficult time putting our vote and fate in the hands of a man who can not be honest with his own country. Even being a politician people have made mistakes move on and become wiser don’t hide the past embrace it. Sen. Rubio the truth will set you free

  2. Well this is one of the reasons I will be voting Democrat on this next upcoming election. Yes marijuana does alter your mind but so does alcohol more so than cannabis IMO. What’s incredible is the fact that marijuana has become such a big political issue in today’s world! Anyone else think this guy has smoked on the reefer before?
