Back in 2008 actor Morgan Freeman was injured in a car accident that broke bones in his left arm elbow and shoulder and as the actor states cannabis has been an effective pain reliever.
Freeman, who is an advocate of supporting cannabis legalization, recently said to the Daily Beast that there were too many medical advantages for lawmakers to turn a blind eye to the issue and public opinions.
“Marijuana has many useful uses. I have fibromyalgia pain in this arm, and the only thing that offers any relief is marijuana,” Freeman stated. “They’re talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they’ve discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life. That right there, to me, says, ‘Legalize it across the board!’”
Freeman is apart of growing chorus of celebs who have expressed their support of cannabis legalization. Former comedian and co-host of the daytime talk show The View, backed cannabis legalization in front of 3 million viewers, as well as inviting her co-host on pot farm to gather information about the plant. Long time actress Susan Sarandon, who is a part of the Marijuana Policy Project’s advisory board, admitted to smoking marijuana before every award ceremony. Even the Dalai Lama shocked the Buddhists culture and others alike when he stated that cannabis should be utilized for medical reasons.
Even with the progression made in marijuana policy reform, the marijuana plant is still labeled a Schedule 1 substance, along with different drugs that the federal government has identified as being a high risk for abuse and are without medical purposes. Added in his comments to the Daily Beast, Freeman also derided what he painted as archaic logic.
“They used to say, ‘You smoke that stuff, boy, you get hooked!’” Freeman stated. “My first wife got me into it many years ago. How do I take it? However, it comes! I’ll eat it, drink it, smoke it, snort it! This movement is really a long time coming, and it’s getting legs – longer legs
