A Salem medical marijuana shop is the first to gain permission to sell cannabis after getting a temporary waiver from the state’s enforced testing guidelines.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has stated it will reevaluate its medical marijuana testing guidelines. Supporters and experts aware of the testing process state Massachusetts current guidelines are more enforced than those in other locations around the US and difficult to meet.
“We carefully considered the initial testing results and we will review the standards going forward,” stated Dr. Monica Bharel, commissioner of the Department of Public Health.
The reconsideration of testing standards is yet another obstacle for Massachusetts issue with the medical marijuana process. However voters voted for medical cannabis back in 2012, the licensing progress has been marred by delays and missteps.
Back in April, Gov. Charlie Baker stated that his administration was overhauling the entire licensing pores. Those who have previously and currently received provisional licenses could continue taking the measures need to get final authorization. Currently, four marijuana shops have obtained approval to cultivate cannabis, and the Alternative Therapies Group in Salem is the furthest along on this journey.
