Cannabis-Infused Edibles Legalized in Oregon for Recreational Use

Nowadays, a “pot brownie” is rarely heard of. It is practically a thing of the past since marijuana has found many new forms of edibles. For instance, at Oregon’s Finest, a dispensary in Portland, you can find all of the following: cannabis-infused root beer, artisan cake bites, chocolate truffles, gummy candies and even cold brew coffee.

Recreational marijuana, when in the form of a plant, was legalized in Oregon in October of 2015. However, edibles are still not legal and may only be obtained by those that can receive medical marijuana. Starting on Thursday, that is all going to change on Thursday. Oregon passed a law that allowed for edibles to be sold for recreational use and sellers are getting ready to let out everything from cannabis-infused ice cream to pizza.

Megan Marchetti works at Oregon’s Finest. She says that the dispensary is certainly going to see an increase in revenue, especially from customers who traveled ten miles across the bridge to Washington state, where edibles have been completely legalized for almost two years. Marchetti believes that Oregon has the potential to be the next leader in cannabis-infused edibles.

“I lived in the Netherlands and all over the country, trying to figure out where the best weed in the world is. It’s in Oregon,” Marchetti said. “You combine that with Oregon’s need to have everything artisan and crafted, so you have really great products. Of everything I’ve seen our game is the tightest.”

More state in the nation are working to legalized marijuana, and because of that, law enforcements are concerned since these edibles might end up in the hands of children or may be too potent for some users.

“Fifteen mg can be too high for a lot of people who are new to THC edibles,” David McNicoll, maker of Dave’s Space Cakes, a gluten-free cupcake, said. “You really need to start with 5mg and learn what your dosage level is.”
