Everyone has heard about Donald Trump, renowned businessman and former host of The Apprentice. Now, everyone has heard of him in another spotlight: presidential candidate. Let’s take a look at where he stands among the war on drugs; Although Trump has said that he supports medicinal marijuana, he has had conflicting positions on legalization in the last years. However, one thing is clear: he believes that states have the right to decide whether or not they would like to fully legalize marijuana or not. In 1990, Trump called for the legalization of all drugs.
“We’re losing badly the war on drugs. You have to legalize drugs to win that war,” he stated. “You have to take the profit away from these drug czars… What I’d like to do maybe by bringing it up is cause enough controversy that you get into a dialogue on the issue of drugs so people will start to realize that this is the only answer; there is no answer.”
This seems good for pot-reformers, but this year at the Conservative Political Action Conference, he said that he is against the legalization of marijuana. “I think it’s bad, and I feel strongly about that,” Trump said. “They’ve got a lot of problems going on right now in Colorado, some big problems.” However, when asked about the states’ rights aspect to marijuana laws, Trump said, “If they vote for it, they vote for it… Medical marijuana is another thing. I think medical marijuana, 100 percent.”
Trump wrote a book called The America We Deserve where he states that he has never tried cannabis. More specifically, he says “I’ve never taken drugs of any kind, never had a glass of alcohol. Never had a cigarette, never had a cup of coffee.” This is interesting because just two and a half decades ago, Trump argued that the only way to win the War on Drugs would be to legalize them and use the tax revenue generated in order to fund drug awareness programs. As he stated, “you have to take the profit away from these drug czars.”

I think marijuana should be legal in all states with laws similar to those of alcohol. I personally think marijuana is better for you than alcohol and is not addictive…it also doesn’t distort thinking and morals the way alcohol does…you never hear of police responding to domestic violence or other violent crimes where marijuana was the culprit, where alcohol often turns violent…keep your mind…smoke pot and quit alcohol!
