Greengro Technologies (OTC PINK: GRNH) announced today that it has developed its first residential sustainable garden utilizing drought-tolerant landscaping techniques based on Vertical Gro Tower Systems from subsidiary Vertical Hydrogarden, Anaheim, Calif., a premier retailer of year-round hydroponic supplies.

Vertical Gro Towers from Vertical Hydrogarden are vertical food production systems utilizing plastic stacking units that conserve water by incorporating efficient, automated irrigation and nutrient delivery methods. The Vertical Gro Towers also enable sunlight to reach more plant surfaces, thus maximizing the amount of light coverage for each stage of plant growth in order to produce higher crop yields.

The new sustainable garden is located in a recently renovated residence in Garden Grove, Calif. The Vertical Gro Tower Systems sit on three raised beds of concrete blocks and soil and are automatically fed water and nutrients on a regular schedule to produce more crop yield for each square foot of growing space. Initial crops include kale, tomatoes, strawberries and cucumbers.

“Sustainable residential gardens are ideal for homeowners seeking fresh, chemical- and pesticide-free produce such as lettuce, basil and tomatoes and specialty culinary herbs,” said Greengro Technologies CEO James Haas. “Growing even a small portion of your own food is a huge step toward leading a sustainable lifestyle. And following low-water-use strategies enables us to substantially conserve water, save money and grow our own delicious food. ”

Work on the sustainable garden project combined the talents of Vertical Hydrogarden and Greengro Technologies subsidiary BP Gardens, Buena Park, Calif., a controlled environment agriculture (CEA) company specializing in the use of leading edge technology and state-of-the-art production methods.

“Projects like these that bring together sustainable agriculture, water conservation and job creation are in keeping with our passion for mentoring while providing people with opportunities for having sustainable gardens in their home and the community,” said Marisela Nuno, BP Gardens director of business development and a recently appointed member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Real Estate Management Commission.

In 2014, Marisela Nuno was given a “GirlPower Social Entrepreneur Award” by A Place Called Home (APCH) for her work with APCH teens, including involving GirlPower Girls members in environmental science classes. APCH is a Los Angeles-based non-profit youth center serving South Central L.A. children, teens and young adults ages eight-21.

“Through our own non-profit NRG Foundation, we are working alongside APCH to have teens join us in developing sustainable home gardens and community gardens,” said Nuno.
