New Jersey and recognized Chris Christie is making an effort to gain some socially conservative street cred for his longboat White House bid by taking on legalizing marijuana. While legal marijuana in Colorado and Washington State has proven both popular and profitable, Christie nonetheless threatened that, if he does become elected to be president, the party would soon be finished.

“I’m anti-marijuana. I believe it should still be illegal,” Christie warned while campaigning in New Hampshire. “If you’re getting high in Colorado today, enjoy it until January 2017, because I will enforce the federal laws against marijuana as President of the United States.”

While Christie has at one point stood behind state rights when politically convenient, he soon switched hi stance when talking about states that have legalized cannabis for recreational purposes “We have a federal law on the books that say marijuana is illegal in this country. Illegal. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.”

When approached with the question of why he is personally against marijuana, Christie rebottled with the usual litany of prohibitionist talking points: “I believe that it does damage to the brain and I think there’s plenty of evidence that proves it. I believe it is a gateway drug to other drugs and I don’t believe, given my experience in law enforcement, that it’s the right thing to do.”

He even added “I don’t think we should be encouraging our young people to engage in it,” for good measure.

  1. I’d be willing to bet this joker doesn’t know exactly why cannabis was made illegal in the first place.

It had nothing to do with its intoxicating effects, it had to do with MONEY, plain and simple. Money for Hearst who wanted to make newspaper from wood pulp instead of hemp to bolster his lumber holdings. Money for DuPont who wanted to kill the hemp fiber business for textiles and rope in favor of Nylon. And let’s not forget when the feds got involved at the urging of misters H. and D. marijuana was not made illegal at first, merely taxed at an outrageous rate so the the US would have the excuse of tax evasion in order to deport the millions of Mexican migrant workers who flooded us during the Great Depression.

When cannabis finally was made illegal because of the stink Hearst & DuPont made about it in the media & money circles, they just about busted guts making sure industrial hemp was included in the law because the two plants are related and they bled the scare tactics from one plant to the other. Result? Almost 80 years of lunacy and much lost progress in so many fields because a prime industrial and medical ingredient was made illegal for nothing.

Odds are Chris Christie doesn’t know all this. All he knows is that cannabis has been illegal for his entire lifetime and he sees no reason to rob the DEA of its funding or its power to harass people because of a damned weed, by simply growing a brain and seeing that he’s on the losing end of social change.

So go ahead, fat boy, get elected and try to enforce this or that and see where it gets you.
