A new slew of products have launched into the cannabis industry with the goal of becoming part of the new mainstream market on pot. Many of these new products have been made with medicinal patients in mind, helping to solve a range of issues from anxiety to acne and beyond.
Beauty products in the weed industry are something that are not as highly talked about as other products due to the fact that they don’t always give the user the high feeling that they desire. One of the main benefits of these products is that often, they don’t need a prescription to be purchased. The era of marijuana infused beauty products seems to be upon us as they are more popular than ever. The past couple years have been crucial to the development of these new cannabis products. With researchers and labs working on new ways to implement the chemicals of cannabis into lotions, creams and everything else, the industry has moved out of the woodworks.
One of the most promising pieces of tech in the industry comes from the research being done on cannabidiol (CBD). CBD has a large amount of medicinal properties which continues to give high efficacy to it as a treatment for a wide variety of conditions. CBD is non-psychoactive which means that it does not get the user high, so often, it can be an even better treatment for conditions where the user does not want to be intoxicated. Studies have shown that products with cannabis infused into them are anti-inflammatory and have antioxidants which can be very beneficial to the skin. This research has helped to create new lines of products dedicated to treating skin diseases such as eczema, psoriasis and other skin allergies. One of the most important reasons that people have come into this space is due the plants ability to treat anxiety and pain.
Sean Akhavan, the lead scientific researcher at MedMen, the largest marijuana retailer in Southern California stated that “weed infused products do work. Whether it’s a topical, sublingual or vaporizer, the active ingredients like THC or CBD get into your bloodstream and into your cells. The delivery methods vary depending on what you are taking it for. For example, a topical ingredient will get into your skin cells, but won’t get into your bloodstream [as much]. Pure CBD products do help with health ailments. There have been studies that show high CBD with a low THC ratio is good for anxiety or pain”
There are certain things that a buyer should be looking for when looking to treat certain conditions. If one is new to the world of CBD, there are a few things to look out for. Akhavan further stated that “When purchasing a CBD product you should look for the purity and type of plant.” Purity is often calculated as a percentage of the weight of the item, so the higher percentage, the more relief a person will feel. He continued to state that “CBD can come from either marijuana or hemp. Hemp is a species of cannabis sativa that genetically cannot produce more than 0.5 percent THC. High THC marijuana strains are 25 to 30 percent THC.” Often times, the high marijuana strains are the best ones to treat pain due to their high levels of CBD. Purchasing and using cannabis is something that is extremely subjective due to the differences in the human body. One should always make sure to test a small amount of the product out before moving on to higher doses. The future of the cannabis industry in beauty and health products is continuing to flourish as cannabis becomes normalized throughout the U.S. and the world.
