Apparently the controversial $1.1 trillion dollar spending bill had one more hidden caveat. This one is actually good news! Somewhere deep inside the 1.603 page document is tucked a little provision that will prohibit federal agents from raiding medical marijuana operations in states that have legalized medical marijuana. The exact section is worded as such: “the first time in decades that the federal government has curtailed its oppressive prohibition of marijuana.”
While President Obama has been in support of this exact action for a long time, having it actually in writing, in a bill passed by congress, prevents the next president from going back and raiding legal medical marijuana operations.
“Sec. 538. None of the funds made available in this Act to the Department of Justice may be used, with respect to the States of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin, to prevent such States from implementing their own State laws that authorize the use, distribution, possession, or cultivation of medical marijuana. Sec. 539. None of the funds made available by this Act may be used in contravention of section 7606 (“Legitimacy of Industrial Hemp Research”) of the Agricultural Act of 2014 (Public Law 113-79) by the Department of Justice or the Drug Enforcement Administration.”
One important thing to remember is that marijuana is still listed a Schedule 1 drug, meaning “no medical uses”, according to the Federal Government. But looking how not-logical it is now to have this bill in place, it has to mean that end is in sight for marijuana prohibition, at least where Congress is concerned.

It’s about darn time! I like how they had to hide it inside the bill though…couldn’t just come right out in public about it. Oh well…at least there is change happening.
