$RQHTF: Welcome To The #Marijuana Industry
This morning Reliq Health Technologies (OTC:RQHTF) (TSX VENTURE:RHT) announced that through an MOU with Invictus MD Strategies Corp. (CSE:IMH)(OTC:IVITF) the company would be diving into the marijuana industry through the development of a mobile application for cannabis patients and consumers and their clinical care teams. Another clear example of how “Bio-tech” is beginning to carve its own space within the marijuana industry.
Reliq Health, a healthcare technology company focused on developing innovative mobile health and telemedicine solutions, has developed a novel SaaS (software as a service) solution for the community health care market. The solution provides automated remote patient monitoring in the home and secure cloud-based communication, care planning and collaboration for all members of the patient’s circle of care. Reliq’s secure platform allows clinicians to collect comprehensive data on patients’ clinical conditions, medication usage, symptoms, side effects and behaviours – creating a wealth of population health data.
“Studies consistently show that providing patients with the tools they need for self-management of their health conditions produces better health outcomes and reduces healthcare costs. Cannabis is prescribed to treat a wide range of conditions including arthritis, glaucoma, side effects from chemotherapy, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis and post-traumatic stress disorder. Our cannabis app allows patients to track usage and record symptoms specific to their clinical condition, allowing patients and their care providers to determine optimum strain, dosing and mode of administration. Our platform will improve access to care by connecting patients with physicians in their community who have experience with medical marijuana, and supports physician-approved automated prescription refills through participating producers,” said Dr. Lisa Crossley, CEO of Reliq.

How Safe Is Using Marijuana While Pregnant
Stacy never drank alcohol or had a cigarette. However, she smoked marijuana daily while pregnant at 24 years old. With the blessing of her fiance, Stacy began taking a few hits in her first trimester to ease morning sickness before her work day at a sandwich shop. When sciatica made it almost impossible to stand during her 12-hour shifts, she secretly vaped marijuana oil on her lunch break. Stacy said, “I wouldn’t necessarily say, ‘Go smoke a pound of pot when you’re pregnant. In moderation, it’s ok.” A recent federal survey shows that many pregnant women seem to agree. As states legalize cannabis or its medical use, expectant mothers are taking it up in increasing numbers; another example of the many ways in which acceptance of cannabis has outstripped scientific understanding of its effects on human health.

CBD Oil May Be A Good Option For Schizophrenia Therapy
Research from Western University concludes that a chemical found in cannabis can be helpful in schizophrenia therapy. Justine Renard, postdoctoral fellow in Western’s Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry who led the study, identifies the neural pathway whereby the marijuana-derived phytochemical cannabidiol (CBD) produces antipsychotic effects that are discovered to ease symptoms of schizophrenia-related psychosis.
The study’s authors stated, “These findings have critical implications not only for understanding how specific phytochemical components of marijuana may differentially impact neuropsychiatric phenomena, but demonstrate a potential mechanism for the therapeutic effects of marijuana derivatives in the treatment of dopamine-related, psychiatric disorders.”
