The 2016 World Drug Report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC) was published last week after the General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) do discuss the global drug epidemic. The drug report provided statistics on market prices for opiates, cocaine, cannabis, amphetamine-type stimulants, and psychoactive substances, as well as how they all affect health. The report looked at the treatment demand for marijuana since the legalization of marijuana in certain parts of the world.

Marijuana is still the most commonly used drug across the globe. It turns out that about 183 million people used it in 2014. The UNDOC also states that because of the changing attitude towards marijuana, mostly in the West, marijuana use has increased, in addition with how many people accept using cannabis. In many areas, though, more citizens have gone into treatment for marijuana use disorders over the last ten years.

The report adds that guys are much more likely to use marijuana than women are. In fact, they are three times as likely. On the other hand, women are more likely than men to become involved in the non-medical use of opioids and tranquilizers. The differences in genders can be linked to the way a social environment is set up instead of sole gender being used to look into drug use. Although women do not use marijuana as often as men do, it turns out that women experience the negative impacts more because there is a lack of drug-dependency care for women.

The report adds that about five percent of people between the ages of 15 and 64 used at least one drug in 2014. Although this is a very large pool, it has not grown in the last four years, even if the population continues to increase. However, the amount of people suffering from drug dependency did increase greatly; there are now over 29 million people compared to the previous figure of 27 million.
