Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt has decided to go against a cannabis measure that is going to be voted on in November that would legalize and regulate a marijuana industry in Nevada very similar to the one that is set up in Colorado. During a press conference, Laxalt stood before the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association’ and decided to fight against the idea of a legal cannabis market in Nevada.

During this meeting, Laxalt said the arguments that cannabis antagonists have been using ever since the start of marijuana reform. These arguments include the dangers of marijuana for the public; to break it down, children will begin to use marijuana, addiction rates will go up, and the amount of motor vehicle accidents are going to increase as well.

“None of us care if a 60-year-old baby boomer is smoking marijuana at home. That’s not our concern as it relates to this ballot measure,” Laxalt told the public. “Our biggest concern is this ballot initiative was written by major marijuana interests that their biggest concern is making money,” and “when you legalize a drug in our community, you put more impaired drivers onto the road that we all have to share.”

The measure that is going to be shown to Nevada voters in November was made by the “Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol,” which looks to make retail cannabis available to adults aged 21 or over. It will put forth the same type of tight restrictions set in Colorado, which the recent data finds is keeping cannabis out of the hands of the state’s children.

“The survey shows marijuana use has not increased since legalization, with four of five high school students continuing to say they don’t use marijuana, even occasionally,” the Colorado Department of Health recently reported.
